A few more bits:

It seems to me that most riders prefer the strap to route through the pedal body, but a large percentage prefer routing through the cutouts on the rear plate. They'll tell you that security comes from having the strap as far back on the foot as possible. I personally agree, but think it's too ugly to do to a nice classic bike. For those with retention and/or comfort problems, though, it might be worth a try. Oh, and speaking of comfort, has anybody mentioned that it's a good idea to try to get the buckle as close to the top of the shoe as possible, as opposed to digging in to the side of the foot?

I got a kick out of P.C. Kohler writing about the annoying sound of clipless pedals. The latest issue of Bicyclist magazine has a "50 best things about cycling" list, and includes that sound. Takes all kinds, I suppose.

Also note that some of the best track riders of the old(er) days did route their strap ends through the second buckle loop. Rory O'Reilly claimed that it helped keep the strap from loosening during full-power standing starts.

Oh, and my vote for "Best Toe Strap" goes to Binda Extras.
