Japanese NJS-approved straps are stronger than Bindas- I've seen big guys pull the buckles from Binda Extras, but never from double rivetted NJS straps. Duegi makes a nice, deep-slotted cleat for their plastic soled 'Sprint' shoe that screws to the two rear LOOK cleat fittings on most modern shoes. About $20 from Business Cycles.

An off-topic PS: If I was setting up a young sprinter, I'd eschew conventional pedals in favour of Shimano SPD-R pedals with a single toestrap. Good enough for the British sprinters, who are very good indeed.
