I just got a pair of white Mavic half-hoods for my PX-10.. NOS but after 35 years in a drawer, they were brownish and dry. I used a spray cleaner with a mild bleach... let it sit for about five minutes and the white came back beautifully. Then I soaked them overnight in an Armour-All type silicone solution. They look outstanding and are pliable etc.

Like Dave, I would caution against using something as harsh as acetone on anything natural like rubber.

Sears used to sell a wonderful "rubber lubricant" which was ideal for this application, but last I checked it was no longer made.
