Hey - some on-topic Campagnolo stuff! Now that's what the world needs more of!

For those inquiring minds out there, the correct spindle length is 115.5mm (70-SS). For BSC or French BBs using Record crankarms of the same vintage (late 1977 to 1987), it would be 114.5mm (68-SS). The spindle offset matters too - these are not symmetrical spindles (those started {for road} with the 111mm C-Record etc. ones in 1985).

The rear hub spacing doesn't matter (i.e. 120 vs. 126) - you have to match the vintage/type of the crankarms with the vintage/type of the spindle. You also must match thin-cup (steel-only) spindles with (steel-only) thin cups, and thick-cup spindles with thick cups, as the bearing shoulder spacings are different. There was no Nuovo Record track or triple BB (only NR doubles; although 'cross, at 3.5 mm longer on the RH side, may have been made in an NR version - anyone know for sure?) SR only works with SR, as the bearings were a different size. Gran Sport, Record, NR, and SR BBs all had different/unique spindles at any given time, although they were all the same overall length.

Simple, no?

Now THIS is fun!

P.S.

68-SS / 70-SS marking on a spindle doesn't always mean 114.5 / 115.5 - Campagnolo (rather confusingly, IMO) retained that nomenclature for newer, completely different spindles! (Who was minding the store that week, anyways?)
