In 1989 I repainted my Richard Sachs tourer at the suggestion of Peter Weigle who I'd met that year at a Gear in Mystic Connecticut. It had what were called spider lines, which I believe he said was due to the undercoat shrinking at a different rate from the Imron top coat. The bike rode just as beautifully after the repaint and I replaced some parts with the "nicer" parts I'd wanted but couldn't get or afford when I first built it up in 1978.

The next summer I was at a Baltimore Bike Club's event on Maryland's Eastern Shore that turned out to be a long rainy Memorial Day weekend. We were sitting around the table Sunday night with a forecast for more rain when a friend asked if we (my future wife and I) were riding the next day. I replied that probably no, I didn't want to get my baby wet. My friend said "Barb, Isn't that sweet that he's thinking about you so". Barb immediately replied "He's not talking about me. He's talking about THAT ... bike!" She was right. It has since been camping out with me on at least a dozen cross state rides since then (It has its own tent). 8o)

Happy trails,

Dan, the Sachs actually does get wet now and then, Artley Parkton, Maryland, where it snowed like crazy yesterday morning but is sunny and 50's today. I'll get to sort out the Raleigh Pro beater I just built up two nights ago.

Every so often, I get the "bug" to get the bike I ride the most, my beloved 76 Viscount, professionally restored. ... Every time I start though, I'm stricken with the (irrational I know) fear that after all the massaging it would take to return her to "As New" she would somehow be "different" and the ride would change. Or worse, I'd be afraid to ride except on perfect days on perfect roads. Thank you kindly, Richard Reno Green Bay, WI. where it's snowing AGAIN!
