Why not just buy some French-threaded pedals? There are still plenty of NOS and good used ones around. The current TA pedals are supposed to fit either French or English cranks and in fact I have installed some in French cranks.

Howdy folks.

My brother has a set of older TA Cyclotouristes that have French pedal threads. I got him a good deal on them assuming that it was simple to tap them out. His set has the pedals holes with the disks closing them off from the back side. He finally took the bike to a trustworthy shop to have them tapped out, and it turns out that the typical tap is a long tapered thing that will only work if the disks are punched out (which we would prefer to avoid). Is there some other kind of tap that will work in a blind hole? Would any bike shop have this device?

Thanks, Doug
