Pete,

The older Hetchins mixte frames are quite different than the newer ones pictured on the Hetchins.org site. The older bikes have a totally different feel and charm from the newer ones; just like the regular bikes do. The Langley one is the best I've seen. The new ones don't do the same thing for me.

Brian: As I said in my other note, Len Ingram's wife has one of the other Mixte's. It might be the "93" on the Hetchins.org site. I'm not sure about the lugs. The BB looks like Vade Mecum with a slight difference on the look of the lug where it joins the seat tube. The Fork appears to be Magnum Bonum but the head tube look confuses me. It has the look of a Magnum Bonum that has been modified.

My lugs are not quite the same as the pictured frame, but as far as I know there are only 4 known Hetchins Mixtes, all from this period. It may be that only Spence ordered them and had them built. Until today, I only knew of the 3 mixtes, this is a great find! This one is the best looking of the 4 known bikes as far as the details and the paintwork. One of the others I repainted in pearl sea green and pearl pastel pink, many years ago. Jimmy Thomson and I both have one color Ivory bikes. This one is super!
