Subject: [CR]Rebour Drawings (Original Art) - Posted to Web Site - Identification Help Needed

I have posted quite a few original Daniel Rebour drawings to my web site in a "hidden" folder that can be accessed from the link near the end of this post. Once the database is more complete, I will reformat the presentation, slick it up a bit, and bring it to the forefront of the site.

At present, I have cross referenced many of the images to the page and item number as found in Le Monde de Daniel Rebour Volumes 1-3. (Yes, there is now a 3rd volume. The newest volume was released in the past couple of months and focuses on the years 1953-1957.) Additionally, Jan Heine has been kind enough to provide information on several items including actual publication dates in Le Cycle and also some parts identification. Some of the drawings look like Rube Goldberg inventions. There are a couple of items that, for the life of me, I cannot figure out their use.

A good start has been made but there is still a fair amount of missing information. First, I do not speak or read Japanese, so the volumes of “Le Monde de Daniel Rebour” are like thumbing through bike porn, great pictures but I’m not picking up the content. Also, I do not have copies of Le Cycle for the years 1946-50, which is when the majority of these drawings were executed.

This is the information I am trying to assemble to the database:

-Correct Part Name

-Manufacture

-Publication Date & Page Number in Le Cycle (plus a scan of the entire magazine page if available)

-Any known periodicals (other than Le Cycle), with reference, where the drawings may have appeared

Once this database is complete, I intend to keep a small handful of the drawings in my own collection and will sell the rest. (These drawings came to me in a collection acquisition I made that included items that more closely fit the scope of my collection.) My intention is to offer the first batch to the CR list, with substantial selection preference given to those individuals that have assisted in compiling the historical data.

If you are able to further identify any of the drawings, please respond to me off list and be sure to refer to the jpeg numbers next to the images.

I have made high resolution scans of all the art so that in the future, when the need arises, a publisher does not need to rely on third generation images that were garnered from magazines. It is a shame that Rebour’s art has not been seen much in original form. While the magazine versions are nice, the original art is stunning. This was an artist that had unbelievable line execution.

Please be aware that the image packet on the site takes about 30 seconds to load on a DSL line. If you have a dial-up, hit the load button and go get some coffee. It could be a while. The images can be found at:

Enjoy the images. I have been having a wonderful time sorting and organizing them.
