I think the inflexible list rule is "fix it up anyway you want".

We've discussed "funk" bikes and "parts bins specials" that are put together any which way with whatever is lying around just so it can be ridden, and then put on the road. We've also discussed lovingly restored original spec bikes that are "correct" down to the screws in the top tube cable clips. And we've discussed "hot rods" which are older frames with modern parts. Anything you do will be interesting and worth discussion to us. And of course bikes change over time, too, as tempting parts come into your hands.

For example, I'm riding a 40's english bike that I got as a bare frame. It started off in my hands as a hot rod with modern cranks and derailleurs and a 7 speed cassette hub (a prior owner 'updated' the frame with campy dropouts and spread it to 127mm). Lately, it's 'regressed' to late 60's early 70's gear like Suntour VXGT derailleurs and a TA Cyclotouriste crank. No reason for it, except it pleases me, and that was the cool gear when I got into riding. Maybe someday when it's time to get it repainted, I'll have period drop outs reinstalled, and try to rustle up some early 50's British parts. But then again maybe not, as she rides so nice now.

So please yourself in the build, maybe use what you got on hand to get started, then slowly work to the "perfect" blend of parts, whether that's a full on NOS Super Record group or anything else that tickles your fancy. Have fun!
