Dare I suggest that we can add bicycles to sausages and laws when it's best not to look at how they are made?

There are some wonderful stories of Royals visiting cycle works to see "precision British craftsmanship" only to have their delicate eardrums thumped by beating the bejesus out of red-hot metal with sledges and their fine clothes showered with sparks and bits. It's just best not to look. Perhaps this is why British bicycles are renown for their finish... beat the metal senseless, just paint it pretty. And of course, it all worked in the end... best darn bikes in the world. They just weren't made by little elves in some pristine, perfect world.
