Yes, the later style with the "grub screw" in the back of the seat lug worked great! The screw has a large floating steel ball with a large flat spot so the the flat surface presses against the seat post. The seat posts that came with these frames had a corresponding flat, machined down the back side of the post, for the flat of the screw end to press against.

I've ridden a couple of these since new in the 1980s and never had the seat post slip or any damage to the seat post from the screw.
