Jerry makes a very good point here and one that I believe attributes the success of the American bike builders/manufacturers in the pro racing world. The only statement I can find a point to debate is "What bikes win big races is about money and nationalism, not quality." While this could be true to a certain extent the one thing the pro is looking for is quality of the ride, not the finish as so many Americans are obsessed with. In a article for Bicycling magazine several years ago there was a interview with a designer for Cannondale. He stated that the European pros were less picky than the Americans, not entirely racers here, and all they were looking for is a off the rack bike with proven race geometry.

Like many things in life, it comes down to the ride not the looks!
