Well, it is a nice/rare/collectible bike frame, what exactly do you mean by utility beater? If you ride it, like and take reasonable care of it, it's a bike. If you're going to leave it out in the rain, get all the tubes dented from locking it to parking meters or bike racks, I'd suggest a more pedestrian bike for that. That said, it's a better than average (by a LOT) candidate for restoration. If you don't want to do that, consider trading it to someone who
will.
