Yes, I remember the GDR squads taking many top placings in the old Coors Classic and Jan Ulrich is of course a product of the GDR system. Of course there was reputedly a darker side to GDR sports programs with many allegations of doping, massive blood transfusions and steroid use all supposedly authorized and directed from the highest levels of GDR sports. I consider the reunificantion of Germany one of the happiest events since WWII. Jan Ulrich probably agrees.

Eric: GDR = German Democratic Republic ....or DDR = Deutsche Demokratische Republic This is the former East Germany which fell apart after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Marke Spolezi means that Spolezi was the manufacturer. All major concerns were state owned. Often there is a VEB on GDR goods. That means Volks Einige Betrieb, or People's Own Concern. EAST GERAMNY was very into Cycling. Although when I was doing Grad work there in the 1980s I was not personally allowed to bring in a bike. Need more info? I can talk for days on the GDR. Macht's gut, Mark

OK, so I've been hanging onto a very old hairnet for a few years now. On the front exterior it has "PEUGEOT" inside a checkerboard pattern (very faint now) and on the inside of the hairnet is printed/stamped:

"Made in GDR" "Marke Spolezi"

I've done a search on Marke Spolezi and come up with nothing.

Who/What is Marke Spolezi? Where is GDR?

Oh, and when did leather hairnets first appear?

Thanks in advance to anyone that replies,
