Now that everyone is back from the Cirque and my mailbox has returned to the proper balance of CR postings and penis enlargement miracles (is that measured c to t or c to c?), a question:
When, Why and Who decided that braze-ons for brake cables was a no-no? My
'48 RRA has wonderful braze-ons on the top tube for cables and it was a
real advertised goodie once upon a time. And for good reason as it keeps
the tubes "clean" and no clips to rust, work their way loose and mar the
paint. Then all of a sudden (1960s) everyone turns to those chromed
clips... Campagnolo, Mafac, Weinmann... they all went that route. How come?
>From an appearance point of view, they are unsightly with all that cable
housing instead of the "bare wire" between the stops with braze-ons. And I
can't think of a functional advantage.
