I agree with your labeling of the technique as bilaminate but the above assesment seems dubious. The technique isn't a shortcut to mass produce. Bilaminate isn't an attempt to "trick" someone into thinking it's a lug. It's a look onto itself. Not really my cup 'o tea but a "very easy way to mass produce...?" I don't think so at least not when I've done it.
