Subject: [CR]Photos of bilaminated construction..

In a recent post on the List John Clay asked where he might be able to find photos of frames constructed using the bilaminated system.

I thought that it would be easy to point John in the direction of certain sites on the Classicrendezvous web-site, but it proved far more difficult that I had originally surmised.

I had assumed that here would be an Avant Coureur model on the Claud Butler site, a Mercian tandem on that company's site etc. I dont agree with anyone who suggested that Hetchins used any form of bi-lam construction, so did not look there.

As far as I can make out without a 100% exhaustive search. the only examples of this form of technique are to be found on the Paris site - the beautiful Harry Rensch frame being an obvious example, and secondly on the French Automoto site where a bi-lam type of head-lug/sleeve can be seen.

Just finished on UK Ebay has been the sale of an absolutely magnificent and fully restored Claud Butler Avant Coureur from the company's later years. The earlier very curvaceous designs had been replaced by long, windowed spearpoints reminiscent of some of the lugs on the top Rotrax models.

The bike did not meet it's resrve price unfortunately. I know the seller well and should anyone wish to see some jpegs I will get him to send some over privately.

If I could understand how my dratted computer and digital camera work I could send over some jpegs of bilaminated frames both in my own collection, and of frames I have made over a period of some forty years.

Norris Lockley.. feeling a bit frustrated with all this new technology.. give me an brazing torch any time..
