The version without the slot in the cable housing stop (strut that extends downward from clamp) is the earlier version. The very first generation of the Record front derailleur (1960) is identifiable by its two large screws that hold the arms to their pivot posts. I think (my opinion) that the slot was added within a couple of years of its introduction.
