Dale- I got your response via LouDeeter as my AOL connection doesn't always work for some reason, (we discussed this before). Before any other sensibilities are offended by my original email, please allow me this response. I appreciate all that you have to say and will never say that my opinion is "better" than anyone elses on this list. By the same token, I don't feel anybody's opinion is better than any others. I respect all opinions and consider them all equaly valid because thats all they are, opinions. What a boring place the world would be if we all agreed on Everything. Vive la diferrance, (hope I spelled that correct).

Specifically, I haven't a clue whether one bike builder was in a building watching over a bike's construction over 20 years ago or not. I don't know of anyone on this list that was there 20 years ago and can tell me this with 100% absolute certainty. Moreover, I have never said that I don't care about a bike's craft, heritge or authenticity. Of course being discriminating, selective, having preferences is important to me as well. Again, any message of accepting a diversity of opinions is without question.

However, my point of disagreement is this: Sorry to say, but I will take Eddy Merckx's idea of what make a bike desirable over your's Dale, any day of the week. Odd as it may sound, I just have more faith in his overall experience! I know that might sound blasphemous to hear, but that goes along with most any accomplished rider on a list that is longer than both of our arms put together.

As iconoclastic as some would make me feel, I clearly don't believe you can separate Form from Function. If this puts me in the "minority", then its a durn good minority (read:majority) to be a part of. If this gets me kicked-off the list, I can't think of a better reason. Then again, can't we just agree to just disagree. Peace and apologies to those sensibilities I may have
offended. Cheers-
