The best two bikes I've ever owned (and interestingly still own) are my '76-built Richard Sachs, and on the other end of the spectrum my Specialized Sequoia (barely on-topic.) I KNOW the Sequoia was prolly sourced from Japan or something...but its still nice.

I've said plenty about the Sachs already, I didn't fawn over the brilliant finish work and execution back when I was riding 5-6 hundred miles a week, mostly on it...I just rode it, and boy did it ride (still does!)

Likewise the sequoia, which with fenders became my commuter during the 80's when we had (seemingly) endless rainstorms winter after winter. It just rode (and I am sure still does, I think I'll try to get it out today when I am poking around in the garage at our place in CA)

"remembering when I'd tell non-bikey-people fawning over my Sachs 25+ years ago:'a bike is just a bike, unless you don't ride it....then its a piece of junk'(with NO aspersions to builder, builder-name, model, vintage, or anyone real-or-imagined)"

Dale Phelps Los Gatos CA (this week anyways)
