Wide tires are not necessarily hard to find- you just need to ask.

Hutchinson has tires with the following sizing: Excel 700x20,23,25,28c Kevlar and steel bead, some kevlar belted Fusion: 700x20,23,25C Kevlar bead Topspeed: 700x25,28c Kevlar bead kevlar belt version Acrobat trekking: 700x28,37,42,45c puncture resistant belt They are all blackwalls.

IRC has a range of Triathalon tires in 700x20,23,25, 28c AND 27x1", 27x1 1/8" and 27x1 1/4". Steel and Kevlar beaded, they also have kevlar belted versions. These are all tan sidewall (aka 'skin') too, for you vintage types.

These are the brands that I am familliar with- there are others I'm sure.
