I also have read that he had to have special cotter pins made because of his strength. If the stories are true he use to rip out the bottom brackets of the early lugless Claud Butler's. He rode Claud Butler machines in his final years as am amateur. Has supposed to have done this to one of Claud's lugless tandems as well.
