Just by coincidence I have one of these Macleans frames that Norris mentions with the extra stiffening chain stay lugs. This frame was built for my Grandfather by Macleans I think in 1948. He gave it to me on my fifteenth birthday way back in 1963. If anyone wants a picture I will send them one. I remember seeing Reg Harris's track bike on display at a Herne Hill meet in the 60's. Sure you couldn't see the extra stiffeners on his bike think they must have been done internally as opposed to the Macleans having them externally. Pop Hodge of Luton had a very similar idea for stiffening up the drive side of a frame by brazing an extra stay about three inches above the right hand chain stay. Please contact off list for Macleans picture.

Best wishes and be lucky. Michael Butler Huntingdon UK.
