Race report for those interested...

All the talk about racing the old bikes got me thinking: Why can't I race my 1970 Gitane Super Corsa? I just installed the NOS Mafac Racers, and the only part on the bike that isn't era-accurate is the seatpost (Campagnolo Super Record, because the Nuovo Record post isn't long enough). Detto shoes, toe straps and all.

Anyhow, I took the old bike out last night for the club races. Finished third in the first prime, and for the final...I went early (the bike isn't the fastest at accellerating) and should have held out for the win, but spun out (52x13...and I don't have the highest cadence).

I just needed one more gear, and much to my chagrin, I had it! I screwed up the shift (sprinting in a 52x14or15) and got caught at the line, but held on for fifth! You would all be proud to know that I was in a retro wool jersey as well.

By the way, the bottle is mounted on the bars!

There is a picture of me at the finish. I am on the right side of the screen - the only bike with the bottle on the bars.
