Subject: [CR]Hugh Porter Bicycles

All the recent arguing over bicycle frames reminded me of this bike I saw this past Sunday. At first I thought it was a Harry Potter but on closer inspection I saw that this green frame was a Hugh Porter. Based on the Campy NR parts, the frame details and the owner's gray hair, I suspect it was built around 1973 - plus or minus a couple of years.

Now I know Hugh Porter was a champion track racer from the '60s and '70s but did he build his own frames? Or did he simply lease his name to some British builder? Anyway, it was a nice looking, unpretentious frame, built from Reynolds 531. Unfortunately, I had to hurry home after my club ride and wasn't able to chat with the owner. Cheers, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia (Home of the Java Shack coffee house, the Squadra Coppi cycling club and at least one Hugh Porter bicycle)
