Lou - I have a 1971 Astra "Tour de France" I bought new. It's got Huret Alvit derailleurs, Weinmann brakes, and weighs about a ton. I love it. I recall I bought it at an automotive tire-type store. Sheldon Brown revealed the Motobecane connection to me. The fork has the Motobecane "M" in the chrome crown-cap, which I never knew about.

A neighbor up the street is selling a 5-speed just like it with fenders and moustach bars - I'm hoping to go grab it this weekend

Has anyone ever heard of a Japanese "bike boom" era 10-spd named "Astra"?

I believe that Astra was made in France by Motobecane for Beacon Cycle. Should be easy enough to tell whether this is the same Astra as mentioned, just check the threading.
