Regarding Giorgi Colombato an Italian riding the 1923 French Pro Motor Paced Championship was it like our British Sprint Chaampionship? Which at one time was an open event.
Toni Merkens a German was our British National Champion prior to 1939.
My Fathers generation speak very fondly of him and he was well liked and respected in Great Britain.
You occasionally still here tales of Toni from the 80 year plus old timers and of course he was linked with old man Hymie Hetchins, Maurice Selbach and Claud Butler.
