Subject: [CR]Mavic derailleur Prototype Pivot Bolt?

As a followup to the below, I emailed the seller saying I thought he should have mentioned the nonoriginal pivot bolt in the auction description. I received a friendly reply, saying he was not very familiar with this model and would try to find me the proper bolt.

Strange thing is the lower pivot bolt is exactly the proper size and exactly the same color as the upper pivot bolt, that Mavic dark grey, not the more usual black on other marques. The only difference is that instead of the recessed hex socket in the upper bold, the lower has a protruding hex head the same size as the upper socket. This hex head is much smaller than the protruding ones on the Campy Nuovo Gran Sport.

It seems impossible someone would have found a bolt made for something else exactly the same dimensions and color, and if they machined it, they went to a lot of trouble to match the unusual color, then didn't bother to recess the bolt hole. Is it possible this is a prototype, Mavic-made bolt? The seller said the derailleur was a take-off from a show bike. Anyone seen such a bolt on a Mavic RD?

Where were these bidders in that auction? Of course part of the joke is on me, as when I received the "NOS" RD, it had a non-orginal lower pivot bolt. This was in the auction photos, but was very hard to make out, and wasn't mentioned in the description. Maybe the guy who paid $182 has better eyes than me. Of course, he still paid $120 for a pivot bolt (I think BC has them a lot cheaper).

At over $180 for a 1980's derailleur, I do believe it is one for the CR high price page.
