I ordered a custom Mario Confente in 1978 and specified 126mm (six speed) spacing and Mario made it to 120mm (five speed) spacing by mistake. I'm thinking it must have been his default spec for rear spacing in 1978.

Interestingly, my '76 Richard Sachs is 120-spacing. I seem to recall 126 being standardized somewhat later too, but THAT was during a period that is entirely lost to (my) memory.

My q's about the original Masi in question: "what is the spacing on that frame now? and....why not leave it at that?"
