This information jives a bit better with my recollection, which was that 6 speeds weren't really ubiquitous until the late 70's. And according to Frank Berto, in his Suntour history found at the link below, Suntour's Ultra-6 also showed up later in the 70's: http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~hadland/page35.htm

Quote from that page: "In 1977, SunTour introduced the Vx derailleurs, a cosmetic upgrade of the V models, and the Ultra-6 freewheel and chain. By narrowing the sprockets, spacers, and chain width, they made a 6-speed freewheel that was the same width as a 5-speed and fitted on a 120-mm hub. Two years later, this became Ultra-7 for 126-mm hub widths."
