We should not forget BSA (British Small Arms). They even made a Paratrooper folding bike with 26 inch wheels during WW2. Many are still being plowed up by Belgium potato farmers even nowadays.
I have a Puch Waffenrad single speed Roadster sold new in 1983. A spoon front brake and coaster rear I use it for errands. I prefer the ride to my Raleigh Tourist DL-1 3 speed as it seems like normal neutral road geometry in it's road manners.
On the top tube "WAFFENRAD" is in very ornate script with a picture of an old flint lock rifle woven through the script. A German friend said translated "Waffenrad" means "Weapons Bike."
