I thought Cinelli used a 74 mm BB shell for just a couple of years, perhaps in the late 60's.

Duane Kennard asked did the "trench" in Nuovo Record (fixed) cups coincide with the "77ish change in spindle length?

No, the "trench" showed up in a BB that I installed on my bike in early 1975. Pre CPSC mandates.

74 BB width was associated primarily with mtb's in my memory, perhaps prior in tandems.

The reverse rifling showed up in staggered fashion, I assume as the "old" stock was used up, we saw thin french cups well after the English & Italian migrated.
