Relatively easy ways to remove chrome:

Sanding Sandblasting Beadblasting Soaking in muriatic acid (Muriatic acid is Hydrochloric acid. Available at pool supply places. If you follow the safety guidelines it isn't hazardous to use. One problem might be getting rid of the hazardous waste that you have created)
