anyone have any experience shipping a wheelset from the uk to the us? standard air mail.

im being quoted fedex and ups rates, which are quite high, and im wondering if a) royal mail does air mail for big stuff like wheelsets, and b) itll be less expensive for me to ship to a friend in the uk and have them ship royal mail (since the seller appears to be unwilling to)...

im being quoted prices for fedex/dhl/ups/alaris of 100-170 pounds! yikes!
