Following my new self-imposed mandate that says bike in = bike out, I have two bikes coming into the garage in a few days, so something has to go. On offer is a beautiful 1949 Claud Butler f/f with bilaminated lugs. I believe it is an Avant Coureur, a rather rare and desirable model. The ornate "lugs" have a stylized ax head as part of the pattern. Paint is a flamboyant burgundy with the lugwork lined in silver. Very striking. It's in excellent condition, though it has one small area of superficial paint damage at the back side of the seat tube that occurred during shipping that's been touched up. If you put fenders on it (Bluemel alloy mudguards look great with the silver lug lining BTW), the blemish will be inconspicuous. Chrome on fork crown is perfect.Comes with (formerly)NOS period headset and cottered bottom bracket. When built up, this bike will attract a lot of attention and admiration and will look just like one of those bikes in a Frank Patterson sketch. (You know the scene, a beautiful bike casually leaning against the wall of a local pub named something like The Buggered Ploughman). The price is $650+shipping, which is less than the cost of the restoration. You're really buying the restoration at a discount, getting the frame for free. Paypal c/c, personal checks accepted.
