Subject: [CR]bike rescue day

Hi Folks:
I just found a notice in the San Jose CA Mercury that Saturday 9 October is bike blessing day at St.Bedes Church in Menlo Park,2650 Sandhill rd.Sunday is bike donation day,for people to turn over their working surplus bikes for distribution to farm workers.Maybe someones are already watching, but I want to remind whoever's close to the scene to rescue the fine old iron brought in by old Peninsula families cleaning out.The church,or Bikes not Bombs,or whoever,is usually happy to accept a cash offer for a fine bike to cover operating expenses.Or you can bring along a good Huffy cruiser to trade.
I have a LaPerle touring bike from 1950 that Bicycle Classics in the Medfield days took in from Bikes Not Bombs to sell for the cash.It had been in a cellar for 50 years;even the white tires were good, but the BNB people had gouged up the top tube during their brief handling.Fresh, bright gouges.
