Bob, I'm pretty sure these came with 500A (440 x 37) tires. Though someone may have substituted different rims when they couldn't get tires. I had a Gitane with these tires that got passed from family to family for 30 years. I was both the 1st and 8th owner. 2nd time around I built up a very light set of 451 wheels for it. Thanks to recumbents there are very nice rims and tires in 451.

These were great little bikes and I hope someone wants yours. My sons, and many of my friends kids, racked up some serious miles on the Gitane. Well worth rebuilding it with some alloy components.
