Yes and the pulleys, this is why I said 'parts of the rear derailleur' were original. I wonder where that top pivot bolt came from? I wonder how it fits?

Hello Mike and fellow CRers,

You are absolutely correct Mike. Mr. Todd is not to be trusted under any circumstances. His MO is to build your trust through mutual interests, he tells of his "inside" contacts and the money is exchanged........ I had a dealing with him regarding having a Taylor Tourist and Rann built. He was the middleman between Norman and me. He packed both frames together with one sheet of bubble wrap between the two as the only source of protection. The two frames arrived damaged with lots of scratches, dents and a kinked seatstay. UPS refused to cover the costs of damage due to insufficent packing. Mr. Todd agreed to pay for repair and paint, but very soon afterward, he disappeared, not to answer any phone calls, emails or letters. So please, do yourselves a favor and avoid this guy!!!

After that, he formed a Rene Herse oriented newsgroup with make believe people which sucked in folks such as myself, Jan Heine, and our own Dale Brown. Eventually it was discovered that the group was false and just in time - one of Japan's greatest bike dealers was contemplating a trip to the states to visit this no-goodnick - who's shop at the time was constantly being hyped by the make believe people.

Well, Brian Todd dissappeared but has now reappeared in the vintage mountain bike community. Reports of evil deeds include shill bids and junky frames repainted and then passed off as NOS fancy esoteric stuff. He uses several names in order to facilitate shill bids and to keep a clean ebay record. The current account on ebay is vtgmtb. Interestingly, it is spotless, but only because he has built it up most recently after using it for shills.

Some folks have had good transactions from him, but then he does an nasty deed and moves on. He sometimes sells french oriented goodies and other vintage lightweight stuff.

So everyone beware - this guy is as bad as it gets.

Jan Johnson will be IN THE HOUSE! That's right! Just bought my airline tix today. I'll bring a few wool jerseys and sweaters along with me, so bring your CASH. Still have some MASI sweaters and SAN FRANCISCO WHEELMEN jerseys, plus some other cool garments, all made of luxurious 100% Merino wool, in Italy. No itch/no scratch/easy-care/and molto bellisima! I'll be at the Odeum Sports & Expo Center on Friday afternoon: assigning booths, helping folks get set up, directing traffic, etc. VeloSwap opens at 9:00am.

I thought the 13-19 was the rim without the hook for an aramid beaded tire = and the 13-20 was the slightly wider redesign with the hook bead for foldin= g tires. I weighted 145-155 lbs in the 70's 80's 90's and I still use thes= e rims regularly. I have dented them but that is due to underinflation and = a narrow tire. I have never had a problem with these with a wider tire and = proper pressure. These were the lightest 630-622 mm clincher rim that I am = familiar with. Check out this e-bay auction and find the 'doh'! If I didn't see it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed it. This is definitely off topic and will stop here, but I hope Dale will humor me. Last week I managed to visit a very old bicycle shop whose owner has an = interesting collection of old bikes according to rumors I've heard = years ago.=20 Unfortunately the old gentleman, probably in his 80s, told me that he = has moved all the bikes to his home and almost nothing is left in the = shop. But an orange bike hanging at the wall in a dark corner caught my = attention. A Colnago Super with Nouvo Record components and Molteni = colors in pretty good shape. And yes - it is the original Colnago = ridden by Eddy Merckx. He got the bike from Eddy himself in the early = 70s. =20 Besides the very clean lugwork the most unusual feature is the mount of = the front brake. The slotted washer which holds the brake spring is = brazed directly to the fork crown and the whole brake is fixed without = a visible nut. I tried to take some photos but the = bike was fixed to the wall: http://home.t-online.de/home/dirk.feeken/colnago/colnago.html

In the shop I also found K=FCbler's original Tebag from the fifties, a = completely gold plated (unlabeled) french beauty (Mafac, Simplex SLJ, = Campagnolo mix), obviously made by one of the great constructeurs, and = three NOS unridden gems: 80s Koga Myata Full Pro with Dura Ace AX, a = top of the line 1980 SR equipped celeste Bianchi and a very early = Colnago with NR components. Yes all three completely NOS unridden and = with the original price tags hanging at the bars (but not for sale) =20

BTW: Sorry that I don't name the shop or owner, but his bikes are not = for sale and he made clear that he don't want to be bothered by calls = of collectors. Ernest Colnago tries to get the Merckx Colnago from him = for years.=20

Some how I came across this ended auction and then checked the archives and didn't find anything. Sorry if it was brought up and I missed it. http://ebay.com/<blah> I would have thought the frame would be worth more if it hadn't been repainted and maybe it would have. It is interesting that neither the seller or the buyer left any feedback.

Fair. I have only built a couple of sets of spokes with them and it was a number of years ago. The single butted spokes with the heavier guage at the hub are a good idea I suppose. The threading is not as good as DT or top Japanese spokes. So they bind a little more than necessary when you are building the wheel. No breakages but I don't know if I ride any one set of wheels enough to evaluate the endurance of spokes anymore.

Sorry Chuck,

I don't have the chainring you're after.

I just wanted to mention that 51 was the preferred chainring for roller racing. 51 x 14 with an average tire will nail the 303" roll-out restriction.

I suspect that in inch pitch days the biggest gear that guys would have was a 25 x 7 and the tires were fatter then, so it rolled out to 303". Any other theories where the 303" came from?
