Marc Garcia asked if anyone: <snip> has bought a whole bike or frame just for a tiny part or bits.

and Tom Donahue responded: Yes. As I was getting ready to pay $16 for some MTB straddle cables and carriers to rehab an old set of Weinmann centerpulls, the owner asked me why I wanted them. When I told him, he showed me a dusty back room full of nasty old bike boom castoffs. One very dirty lugless gaspipe Peugeot, almost unused, though, except for terrible paint scratches where neatly cut spokes rolled past stays and fork blades again and again, had Puegeot badged Weinmann brakes with perfect straddle cables and Weinmann carriers. I gave him $15 and carried it out the back door on my shoulder. We never concluded the $16 transaction at the cash register. I have been back there a couple of times, but it really is just a lot of junk. ++++++++++++++++++

Well, last month it was the Schwinn LeTour. bought it for the TA cranks, which turned out to be quite nice. But, the front Cyclone derailleur was cracked. But, the BB was Stronglight Competition w. cartidge bearings and alum. cups. Cranks and BB went on the Hetchins I'm building up (period correct). Indeed, the fenders cleaned up right good too, and might just follow the cranks. But, I couldn't sell the darned Pletscher rack. Still a reasonable purchase, if not the ultimate bargain. Anyone local to the DC area have use for the carcass? (about 58 to center, 57 front to back?)
