I only have one experience with FedEx on a claim (a few on UPS but that is another story) for a bike that was shipped to me, and in that case there was damage to the frame in transit.

The box was intact, as was yours, and FedEx denied the seller's (shipper) claim based on inadequate packing. They provided him with a copy of their packing information, which can be found at their website:

The standard procedure for claims seems to be deny, deny, deny. In fairness, there are times that I have received complete bikes with damage and the fault was entirely on the seller due to obviously poor packing.
