CLB aluminum housing (not cables... they were steel!) was available after market.

Package states: 85g. COMPLETE SET OF SELF-LUBRICATING CABLES "DURALINOX" THREAD PATENTED SHEATH These cables complete our "TOP QUALITY" side pull brakes Nr. 4238 TZ C.L.B. PROFESSIONAL and "COMPACT" ("Zicral" components) Sheath also available in black, blue, green, red, gold colours, and coulourless.

I've used these on some of my bikes since they first became available in the early 80s. If you test squeeze the brake levers the brakes feel spongy, but while riding they don't feel spongy at all in my experience.
