Subject: [CR]Best way to get an old heap moving

In hope of enlightenment...Many years ago, a friend & I decided to ride from Bognor Regis to Arundel (both towns in West Sussex UK) He had no bike at the time, so hired one from the LBS. I was riding my 1974 Steyr Clubman. We had ridden a few miles and he was lagging about 300 yds behind. I stopped & when he finally caught up, he was moaning about how bad the bike was. I did not believe him, so we swapped bikes and soon he was a speck in the distance - (We had already been embarrased by a party of German tourists on heavy Raleigh Roadsters or similar, complete with panniers go treading past us...) What item do listmembers regard as the best item to get an OLD HEAP moving? would a new chain do the business or what??

Regards, John Davidson, Bognor Regis, UK
