Subject: [CR]Front Derailleur Adjustment

Like many on the CR list I am a self-taught bike wrench. I have always adjusted the front derailleur until it "seemed about right". On today's maiden ride of my newly restored Dave Moulton, I noticed that the "toe-in" of the front derailleur cage plates was not parallel with the chain rings, it shifted fine and required no more fine tuning than my other bikes that I have adjusted so the outer cage plate is parrallel to the rings. My question; is there an accepted method of adjusting the FD or maybe I've been doing it right all these years and never realized it. thanks, Rodney Handsfield, wonderful fall day in Hutchinson, KS.
