Chuck,

That's good advice and sound reasoning; but the reality of such situations is that the odds are diffinitely against a seamless touch-up. Good results are not that uncommon and even a really good touch-up can happen upon occassion with multi-layer colors; but generally the odds are on the slim side from my experiece. The older the bike is or the more wear the bike has, the more difficult the situation seems to get. Much of what happens depends on what the expectations are.

Anything is possible. If you use a hobby spray brush like a Paasche or Iwata and replicate how the original was done... spray gold base layer, let dry, and then traslucent layer of color over that, then the result would be the same. Anything other than spraying is not going to give an even layer of paint and therefore will not be successful in making the spot disappear.
