<< While riding behind a rider I got this feeling of dejavu. His pedaling and position on the bike seemed so familiar. At that time he turned his head and I thought my god that is Bobby Phillips my old riding, training and racing buddy. I rode up to his side and grabbed his arm, he turned to take a look at the person that had his arm and he exclaimed, “Mark”. We rode and chatted for awhile and then he dropped back for a friend that had falling behind. After catching back up we talked some more and he said I just had to go over to his mom’s after the ride to say hi. It seemed like we had just started the ride when the next thing I know we are pulling into the parking lot with about 35 miles under our belts or tires. I won’t go into the visit, but will say that you should see Bobby’s jersey and trophy collection. There is a photo of the trophies on the link. He did tell me that he is up for induction into the Bicycle Hall of Fame. Bobby did have to two chrome Paramount track bikes that he was given to race in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s although all the parts weren’t hanging on them. >>

Mark and all: Bobby was, I think, the first winner of my Carolina Cup race; http://www.cyclesdeoro.com/carolinacup.html an event that will celebrate 33 years in '05. He was an awesome sprinter and came to the race with his Dad, John. John also raced until he was in his 70s! I think his Dad was British. Any way, I remember both being of feisty personality, again, typical of sprinters!
