I would be amazed if Campy ever made the hoods themselves in the first place. It really doesn't make much sense when you consider that hoods were about the only thing they made out of gum rubber. I think even the shift lever covers were plastic or some other material. Hoods were almost certainly made by subcontractors.

My recollection is a bit different from e-Ritchie's. I recall replacement hoods being pretty darn expensive, like $30 a pair 20 years ago. My suspicion is that, were Campy to reissue hoods, the cost would be more than the going rate of hoods on eBay, which seems to be around the $50 mark. While the hoods might be fresher, I don't know that I would be ordering any up. $20 knock-offs are more my speed.

\r?\n> If rivendell can convince dia-compe (or dia-tech) to dust off its

\r?\n> old tooling and cast some 1970's 610 brake calipers, why can't we

\r?\n> convince campy to dust off some old tooling and make some more

\r?\n> spare parts available ?? or at least rent/sell the tooling to

\r?\n> a small works that can shoulder financial risk ??

\r?\n>

\r?\n> once again, the japanese seem to have a much more reasonable

\r?\n> policy with regards to bike componentry than the europeans.

\r?\n> no surprise, i guess.

\r?\n>

\r?\n> i wonder if dia-compe would be willing to remake some vintage

\r?\n> hoods from the gran-compe ( i vote for suntour superbe hoods ! )

\r?\n> to give us spares for our campy components !! what a political

\r?\n> coup that would be for dia-compe !!
