From: Donald Gillies <gillies@cs.ubc.ca> "Oh my. Oh my oh my. The bike designer must have been very eccentric. UK Auction ends in 4 hours. Will post worldwide: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7113362023 "

and from: Greg Parker gpvb1@comcast.net "Um, and your point would be? The bike sold for over two grand. The frame and parts are contemporary to each other. Wouldn't necessarily be my choice of parts to hang on that frameset, but to each his own...."

my response: Hetchins are known for being distinctive, especially the curly versions, and I can understand that people react differently the first time they see them. Upon seeing my curly Hetchins, friends have usually reacted favorably (to my face, at least), and some have joked around "a car must have run into the back of that bike, to get the stays bent like that". For a Hetchins, mine has a fairly subdued styling. No chrome, no hellenic seat stays.

Anyway, I thought the 50th Anniversary group was sorta fitting for a Hetchins. A bit over the top, a tad gaudy to some eyes. Seems like a good match. :-) My '87 Hetchins is equipped with the standard Campy NR/SR bits (ignoring the SunTour Superbe pedals). Would other parts be more appropriate, or is it just that it's fun to throw on some less mainstream parts? Or is it just that the 50th Anniversary parts tend to spend their lives stashed safely away in the original boxes?
