Sloping fork crowns are pretty old. Rudge-Whitworth were, I think, the first big company to use them and they were a trademark of the marque since at least the mid 1920s. I don't have my '38 Rudge catalogue at hand but I think their top-end Aero lightweights (which were among the most advanced in the world) used sloping fork crowns on British style Reynolds fork blades. These were not chromed but had a chromed separate "cap".
