Subject: [CR]Campy hoods

The levers are either Athena, Chorus, or C-record. Athena have plastic bodies. The other two are either identical to, or indistinguishable from, one another, though C-record may have a better finish. Later C-Records had a "power Grade" adjuster in the front that yours do not have. This feature originally appeared on the cheaper Croce brakes, but was later added to C-record. Later still, Campy changed the cable hook-up to a liner pull, aero-only setup. This was an across-the board change around 1990. The hoods all changed from white to black a year or so later. Contrary to what Steven said, all Campy levers of this type had a built-in QR. All calipers that they were deisgned to go with had no QR. It was the first gen Delta (quasi-prototype) brake that used the aero lever that had no QR. It took a unique hood. This lever actually comes on at least three variants, but I'd be splitting hairs... The lever got widespread use as the "cobalto" lever, packaged with what was essentially an SR caliper as a stop-gap replacement for the Delta "prototype". This caliper had a QR, so the lack of one on the lever was not a problem. The lever you had was used by many riders with the Cobalto caliper, but it was never boxed as a set with that caliper.

I'm afraid Jerry is incorrect about the Victory and Triomphe. These brakes had levers with the same shape as (but not otherwise identical to) SR and NR, respectively. All used the same shape hood. This is the "typical" Campy hood, and this is what is rare in the gum color, especially with the older logo. White and black versions are less sought after (not "correct for NR/SR).

In summary there are three types of Campy hoods (pre Ergo):

1) The classic - NR, SR, GS, Triomphe, Victory

2) Cobalto - fits only the Cobalto lever (the first gen Deltas)

3) The new type - Athena, Chorus, C-record, Croce, and some later cheapie levers (Avanti?)

There are different hoods to fit the newer integrated "Ergo" brake/shift levers.
