Hmmm. Really?, not when I checked.

Let's all agree that I am idiot, fool, choose your adjective or expletive. But I thought that was the idea of the CR List was to be inclusive of all folks that love classic road bikes and that it was to be haven for eccentric individuals (me) with idiosyncrasies such as paying too damn much for some old Italian rims. I have to say I am disappointed at some of the notes I've received that have bordered on downright nasty.

I'm 43 and spent most of my teens in the 1970's really loving cycling. I raced, built, Campy-equipped bikes and had personal hero's such as Eddy Merckx, Ron Skarin and Wayne Stetina. I dreamed of buying a Richard Sachs frame when I still had a paper route and was reading Bicycling and Bike World. I'm coming back to cycling after 20 gruelling years in the advertising business for a little health, diversion and excitement. I certainly don't have the knowledge or resources on rare parts that many of you do, but I'm doing it because I enjoy it. I don't know what you guys know. I'm fortunate because I've had a very successful career, no children and a thrifty wife so I can afford this stuff.

Since I'm being honest I'll tell you that the smart remarks and quips smack a bit of elitism. I'm off the soap-box.

Go back to you families, and away from the computer and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
